Ochre Business Governance TrainingOchre Business has developed a strategic planning and governance training programme made up of 9 modules. These modules can be customised to meet the needs of organisations. Module 1 focuses on strategic planning and includes a strategy checklist whilst the other 8 modules focus on key aspects of governance.

Key outcomes of the strategic planning and governance training programmes is the development of a strategic plan setting the direction of the Trust and development of governance skills for Trustees so they have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Strategic Planning

Ochre Business Strategic PlanningMODULE ONE – STRATEGIC PLANNING
Strategy is a key function of Trustees in facilitating its development and supporting the directions set and in overseeing its implementation. During the workshop, trustees will be developing a Strategic Plan using OCHRE’s Trust Strategy Checklist as the basis for development in addition to the Trust’s founding documents.

Compliance and Understanding

Ochre Business Compliance and UnderstandingMODULE TWO – COMPLIANCE AND UNDERSTANDING
During this part of the training we will be reviewing the Trust Deed / founding documents of the entity and highlighting key aspects with the documents Trustees will need to have a good understanding of. In particular, Trustees will obtain a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities and will obtain a good understanding of the Trust assets as guardians.

MODULE THREE – INDEPENDENCE
During this part of the training, we will be highlighting the importance of Trustees having independence and processes involved where a conflict of interest may arise. Trustees will obtain a good understanding of the processes involved and steps for them to consider where a potential conflict of interest may arise.

MODULE FOUR – PRUDENCE
Prudence means acting with the level of care, good judgment and professionalism expected of Trustees. This includes ensuring that Trustees are acting in accord with the Trust Deed, payments are made promptly, assets are managed properly, reporting is timely etc.

Managing Risk, Finances and Meetings

During this part of the training, we will be showing Trustees how to identify and analyse risk. Trustees will then be shown how to develop a risk response plan.

MODULE SIX – MANAGING YOUR FINANCES
As outlined above under Prudence, trustees need to act with the level of care, good judgment and professionalism expected of them. During this training we will be going through key processes the Trust goes through in managing and approving financial transactions. Will also cover key financial capabilities Trustees will need to have in understanding financial reporting information.

MODULE SEVEN – MANAGING MEETINGS
During this training we will be going through the protocols involved in planning and managing meetings. We will provide an example of a meeting agenda and minutes template.

MODULE EIGHT – MANAGING COMMUNICATIONS
During the training, we will be covering 4 key aspects. They are:
• Identification of stakeholders that need to be communicated to
• Identify communication need ie. What they want to know and/or what the Trust would like them to know
• Communication plan to stakeholders ie. How Trustees will ensure the need is met and how often Trustees will do it
• Who will be responsible for managing communications

MODULE NINE – COMMITTEES
Committees can be established by the Trust to carry out specific functions, such as a Committee to manage the Finances. The purpose, function and authority of the committee members should be set out in the Trust order and be understood and adhered to by committee members. Committees are responsible to the Trust and should provide reports to the Trust of their activity, income and expenditure. The training will cover key aspects involved in setting up and managing Committees.
